I’m thrilled to announce that Tor.com Publishing has acquired The Murders of Molly Southbourne, a new horror novella from Tade Thompson, author of Kitschie-winning author of Making Wolf. Thompson’s novella is the story of Molly Southbourne, a woman who creates a murderous copy of herself any time she bleeds. Trained her whole life to kill these mollys, Molly grows ever more bitter until she finds herself wondering whether it’s better to kill herself or be killed by the inescapable horde.
I made the mistake of opening The Murders of Molly Southbourne late one evening, and found myself so horrified and enraptured that I couldn’t stop reading. Hours later, the book completed, I remained haunted by the poignant and terrifying visions Thompson had conjured before my eyes. I’m proud to have acquired his novella for Tor.com, and for the opportunity to inflict on the readers what I experienced myself.
Tade Thompson lives and works in the south of England. His background is in medicine, psychiatry and social anthropology. His first novel Making Wolf won the Golden Tentacle Award at the 2016 Kitschies. His most recent works are the short story “The Apologists” in Interzone #266, “Decommissioned” in the NewCon Press anthology Crises and Conflicts, and the novel Rosewater from Apex Books. He had this to say about the sale:
Tor.com is at the cutting edge of speculative fiction, publishing authors such as Cassandra Khaw, Laurie Penny, Victor LaValle, and Kai Ashante Wilson. I am thrilled to be part of the novella program. The Murders of Molly Southbourne literally burst into my mind and pushed everything aside, demanding to be written. I wrote it day and night until the first draft was done. I can’t wait to introduce you to Molly’s tragic darkness.
The Murders of Molly Southbourne will be available in ebook and trade paperback in late 2017.
